I know it’s been a short while since I’ve actually written a post, (the blog has been more of an aggregator lately) but I wanted to sit down and update you all on what God has been doing lately in my life.
Last January God led my family to Sovereign Grace church of Orange County. We immediately fell in love with the church family there… especially the senior pastor Eric Turbedsky and his family. A few months later God opened up doors for my wife and I to begin serving again, (it had been almost a year since we served in any type of ministry) she was able to serve in the nursery and I was able to start leading worship again off and on. As time went on and pastors Eric and Mike Davis gained more confidence and trust in me, (I don’t know what he was thinking…) I became more of a commited part of the worship team. Just a few weeks ago Eric decided to give me more of an administrative role, giving me more of a leadership role on the team. God is good! I am excited for this new role, I am glad to be able to use the gifts God has granted me to bring Him glory and serve the church. I have been so blessed and encouraged to serve the Lord with these people over the last few months. I am looking forward to what God wants to do in the days and months and years ahead!
Now, on to the announcement…
I finally met with Chris Poblete, who is one of the founders of the increasingly popular blog network “The Gospel for OC” a couple of weeks ago. We had been trying to get together to hangout for at least 2 months but things happen. (aka, the business of life) Anyway, we met and talked together at a starbucks for about 2 hours or so one evening. He gave me a little run down of where he has come from spiritually, informing me of how he got to where he is now which was very intriguing to say the least. I gave him the short version of my testimony as well, and it was interesting to note that we actually have much in common with a similar vision for the spread of the Gospel in our communities.
He went on to share about the mission of “the Gospel for OC” and it really resonated with me and the vision I had for this blog in the beginning. As I saw it, the vision is to network with other Gospel-centered, like-minded churches and ministries in the Orange County area, and to reach the people of OC with the glorious Gospel. To form a “resurgence” of sorts for a “reformed” understanding of the Gospel, all to the glory of God.
Here is the “official” vision statement from the site:
“We pray to see Orange County radically transformed by the power of the gospel—God’s good news.
Our vision is to see the leaders and members of Orange County churches thrive in glorifying God through being transformed by a biblical understanding of the gospel, living out the practical implications of the Cross and empty tomb, treasuring Christ Jesus above all the world has to offer, celebrating the faithful work of God in our local churches, and living lives intentionally on mission by proclaiming the gospel in both word and deed.”
What a great vision for ministry!
What came next really threw me for a loop… he asked me if I wanted to be a part of it! It was a fairly easy decision for me especially since the requirement for posting is a minimum of 2 posts a month. This serves me well since I do want to continue to post here at my blog (and I do intend to do so more frequently).
I am really looking forward to partnering with the guys and gals @ The Gospel for OC! I have been following what they have been doing since their inception about a year ago and I love what God is doing through that medium. I am just blown away that God in His infinite wisdom desires to use me to serve in that capacity as well!
Go and check it out! I’m excited. If you remember, pray for us as we venture to reach the lost people of Orange County, CA and the surrounding region with the Gospel!
